BAE Systems Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer in York, Pennsylvania

Job Description

The BAE Systems Combat Vehicles site in York, Pennsylvania is seeking aSenior Manufacturing Process Engineer.

In this role, the Engineer will be charged with:

  • Developing manufacturing strategies for fabrication, assembly, test and integration for Combat Vehicles manufacturing programs;

  • Using theoretical knowledge of common manufacturing processes including machining, welding, casting, forging, painting, stamping, forming, etc.;

  • Analyzing problems for process and design deficiencies and providing corrective action to improve quality, reduce cost and maintain schedule;

  • Supporting Transition to Production (TTP) planning activities to define process plans, build sequences, and tooling needs;

  • Working with production documentation teams to define optimum manufacturing processes for the Bill of Materials (BOM) and Production Work Instructions (PWI);

  • Supporting Make/Buy analysis to determine which items will be manufacturing internally or purchased from outside suppliers;

  • Evaluating and defining scope of work for material upgrade processes;

  • Leading Natural Work Teams (NWT) to evaluate engineering changes for impacts to manufacturing processes;

  • Participating in a diverse team environment to resolve manufacturing issues associated with production documentation;

  • Traveling as necessary to other manufacturing sites (i.e. Aiken, SC) to evaluate, maintain, and publish work instructions;

  • Maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring compliance with safety objectives and policies;

  • Sharing responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree in a related technical and/or engineering discipline and four (4) years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Possess a strong understanding of the fabrication of heavy equipment, automobiles, and/or defense products;

  • Literacy in industry-specific software (Enterprise Product Data Management (EPDM), CreoView, SolidWorks, Oracle, etc.);

  • Familiarity with configuration management (CM) processes and Bills of Material (BOM);

  • Experience with Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) or other risk management tools;

  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment;

  • Aptitude to review, compare, and evaluate drawings for manufacturing execution;

  • Solid communication skills for both verbal and written presentations;

  • Strong coordination skills to facilitate cross-functional process definition;

  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, requirements driven critical thinking;

  • Familiarity working in a heavy-manufacturing environment;

  • Flexibility to travel as necessary to other manufacturing sites.

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Experience with military vehicle systems is preferred;

  • Experience working with the Department of Defense and/or military and/or government is a plus;

  • Experience with heavy welding and machining processes very beneficial!
