BAE Systems Production Support Engineer - Fabrication in York, Pennsylvania

Job Description

Production Support Engineering (PSE) plays an integral role in problem identification and resolution for manufacturing. As problems are identified in the fabrication process, PSE works with Floor support engineers to assess the issue and troubleshoot a near term solution. PSE will then conduct root cause analysis and work to resolve systemic manufacturing problems in conjunction with appropriate stakeholders. PSE will create and track requests for variance (RFV) from initial request through vehicle delivery. Additionally, PSE will drive preventative action measures to ensure continuous improvement to the fabrication process.

  • Analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and/or test results to ensure products conform to the technical data package.

  • Troubleshoot and isolate system level problems discovered during production to determine the root cause, including design defects and production/supplier defects, and recommend changes/enhancements in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.

  • Develop quad charts documenting result of the manufacturing related root cause analysis and the recommended actions, and present quad charts to NWT for decision and final approval of action.

  • Track open items with attention to detail and drive closure to issues that result from manufacturing.

  • Maintain the variance control process for production related variations from the technical data package (TDP). This includes obtaining Internal and Customer approval for subject Variances.

  • Support investigation and resolution of supplier quality issues through root cause analysis, test development, etc.

  • Develop PFMEA implementation plans for fabrication processes.

  • Apply basic lean/six sigma principles to drive improvements to production processes.

  • Work with floor support engineers & manufacturing to develop/refine best practices.

  • Provide technical guidance to specialized engineering groups and other technical personnel.

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering discipline(s), industry practices, trends, and applications. Advises senior management on new developments and programs.

  • Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or Technical Equivalent

  • Ability to identify, define, interpret, and resolve engineering problems involving conflicting design/contractual/policy or technical requirements across functional areas and with difficult coordination requirements.

  • Ability to prepare technical reports, papers, and presentations and deliver them in written and oral form to customers, industry leaders, and senior management.

  • Experience in root cause/corrective action- preventive action.

  • Can work independently with minimal guidance.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Hands-on floor support experience, working with shop employees

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

  • Experience in machining, welding, fabrication processes

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Experience as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.

  • Good knowledge of products and advanced knowledge of functional or technical area; advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices in area of expertise.

  • Specialized technical knowledge of relevant military and commercial design standards.

  • Previous welding/weld engineering experience

  • Knowledge of machining processes including milling, portable drill, etc.

  • Working knowledge of GD&T

  • Experience using PTC Creo/ProE
