BAE Systems Technical Operations Manager in Wayne, New Jersey

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced manager to oversee a manufacturing engineering function that include process / industrial engineers, AS9100D compliance oversight, performance metrics and training.

The organization provides production support, work instruction creation, custom tooling design, and manufacturing metrics analysis. It is also responsible for point-of-use material planning and continuous improvement.

The individual should have previous experience working in an environment with mechanical/electro-mechanical assemblies and have experience driving Six Sigma and Lean cultures in high mix/low volume environments.

The manager will be responsible for all quality, cost, and delivery metrics for this small factory team of six plus employees with 1 supervisor and additional engineering/manufacturing support personnel.

The leader must work with the associated technical support team in driving resolution to build issues in a highly dynamic production environment aimed to allow for agile product and process design iterations.

Primary responsibilities are shown below:

Production Support Directs the activities of manufacturing engineers who develop the tooling, work plans, and manufacturing process instructions necessary to assemble and inspect product. Assure manufacturing issues are resolved with little or no impact to delivery, cost, or quality.

AS9100D Compliance Supervises personnel who monitor manufacturing operations for continuous compliance including FOD/ESD Prevention, Preservation of Product, Calibration, Safety, Control of Non-Conforming Material, Use of Chemicals and Shelf Life Materials, etc. Coordinates the Boundary Review system of audits, assessments and actions.

Manufacturing Training Oversees certification/recertification of select personnel to J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610. Coordinates the delivery of other pertinent training such as Point-of-Use Material methodology, Tip-QA non-conformance system, ESD awareness training, FOD prevention, safety review visits, AS9100D refreshers, etc

Metrics Assists the organization to manage-by-the-metrics by the gathering, organizing, and initial analysis of key measurements of cost, delivery, and quality. Oversees the distribution of metrics by automated reports, posting in designating areas, and presentation of key metrics at management reviews.

Continuous Improvement Facilitates efforts by Cost Reduction and Defect Reduction Teams on major product lines, using cost reporting and the non-conformance reports system. Also, co-leads the collaboration meeting between Supply Chain and Manufacturing, as well as the collaboration meeting between Operations and Hardware Engineering.

Workplace Manages industrial engineers who create detailed manufacturing floor layouts, design workstations, select/justify/qualify capital equipment, and plan point-of-use material staging at the work area.

Employee Engagement Supports the Company s idea suggestion system by serving as point of contact for EMPOWER CI. Integrates quarterly All Hands Meeting presentation for Operations personnel. Administers WOW (Well Organized Workplace) Program that overtly recognizes areas who best maintain a world-class manufacturing environment.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent 8 years of working experience.

Requires strong manufacturing background and experience in mechanical /electro-mechanical system manufacture. Knowledge of automated testing and process equipment used for in-process and final build and test is a plus.

Requires strong capability to lead and work in team setting, strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer first attitude.

Must be capable of leading small/medium team projects of a technical nature and the ability to engage non-technical production personnel, as appropriate.

Demonstrated experience supporting new product introduction / transition into a production environment with a focus of Six Sigma and Lean principles and fundamentals.

Must be a US citizen eligible for a DOD security clearance

Preferred Skills and Education

Must be self-motivated, independent, and capable of leading a medium sized technical and manufacturing team.

Previous experience leading both technical teams and manufacturing teams in an Electronic based manufacturing environment.

Must have a working familiarity with ISO 9001/ AS9100 quality systems and DoD manufacturing and test standards.

Utilize all the tools available to drive a Zero Defect culture throughout the factory (Root Cause Corrective Action, Corrective Action Review Board, Kaizen Events and Projects for Green and Black Belts).

Supply chain support experience desirable.
