BAE Systems Director Level Program Engineering Manager in Wayne, New Jersey

Job Description

BAE Systems is currently seeking a Director Level Program Engineering Manager for the Small Form Factor Electronic Warfare systems team. This Program Engineering Manager will serve as the engineering lead responsible for all engineering cost, schedule and technical responsibilities of a large, complex program composed of several related projects to develop, produce and eventually sustain electronic warfare systems. This individual will lead other engineering managers including hardware, software, systems and test engineering leads. The position is located in the Wayne, New Jersey, and will require periodic travel to customer sites and other BAE facilities, including Nashua, NH.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for execution of all engineering efforts within the project, including product development and support, test equipment, and interface with Manufacturing.

  2. Provides technical leadership within the programmatic guidelines set by the program manager and customer. Defines, generates, and reviews customer s project requirements and needs.

  3. Managers and monitors engineering efforts across all projects to ensure engineering work scope, schedule, and budget are well defined, maintained and supported.

  4. Leads team in planning and execution per company process. Provides the coordination between functional engineering managers and leads and ensures all necessary reviews are conducted and approvals are received.

  5. Serves as the Engineering focal point for all activity within the program including strategic planning, bid and proposal support for engineering content, integrated engineering plans on programs, issue reporting, and risk and opportunity management.

  6. Develops engineering staffing requirements for the program and interfaces with functional engineering organizations to ensure program is adequately staffed and executed.

  7. Ensures project safety per company practices, processes, and policy.

  8. As a senior leader and a leader of managers, coach and mentor subordinate engineering managers to build the engineering leadership pipeline.

  9. Support key engineering and company initiatives such as Design for Unit Production Cost , Affordability and Zero Defect Production ensuring our products are producible, testable and affordable.

  10. Serves as the prime engineering spokesperson to the program manager, customer and BAE Systems executive leadership.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Required:

  • Bachelors degree and 12 years of experience

  • Active Secret DoD Security Clearance and eligible for Special Access clearance and Top Secret clearance

  • 5 years of proven technical leadership experience on complex electronics systems programs

  • Experience leading $20M technology development programs

  • Production program experience

  • Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate with internal and external customers to achieve consensus on technical decisions and issue resolution

  • Problem Solving: Analytical thought needed to resolve issues in a variety of complex situations, without supervision.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively build and lead teams

  • Able to define and implement an effective organization structure

  • Proven leadership interfacing with customers

  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex problems

Preferred Skills and Education

Preferred:

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI

  • Working Knowledge of Electronic Warfare: Radar Warning, Situational Awareness, Interferometry/amplitude direction finding, Emitter geolocation

  • Master s degree in Engineering or related and at least 20 years experience

  • 10 years proven technical leadership experience on complex electronics systems programs

  • Project Management Institute Certification

  • Experience leading $60M technology development programs

  • Experience successfully managing managers of a project organization

  • Experience leading a borderless team where team members are spread across multiple locations

  • Experience leading multiple functions (e.g. Software, Hardware, Test and Systems Engineering)

  • Strong decision making skills

  • Experience with US Department of Defense product development.

  • Experience with design, development, and field testing of electronic systems for the US Navy, Army and/or US Air Force
