BAE Systems Network Engineer Principle in Washington, District Of Columbia

Job Description

BAE Systems in Washington DC is seeking a Network Engineer to provide support to the US Navy's Strategic Systems Program (SSP). Primary responsibilities will be providing design, configuration, installation and maintenance of network devices to include switches, routers, Video teleconference, firewalls and IPS. The section is responsible for designing and reconfiguring network architecture. Candidate must have strong technical skills in network infrastructure and must be able to configure firewalls, routers, and switches as well as research and design architecture improvements. This must be done completed in accordance to DoD IA requirements.

Plans and directs the technical execution of providing network engineering support. Develops short range plans and schedules for the current technical effort. Supports development of long range plans and schedules for anticipated future work.

Ensures task plans, processes, work instructions and other controls are effective and compliant with defined processes

For work assigned to the section, track schedule, performance and other metrics as defined in Program/Project plans.

Provides personnel with day-to-day technical direction. Plans, directs and participates in technical activities associated with providing network engineering support.

Maintains responsiveness to customer requirements and maintains customer relationships. Regularly interfaces with customer representatives to support execution of current technical task(s) and planning for future activities.

Assists in the development of section related Basis of Estimates (BOE), Contract Statement of Work (SOW), Contract Deliverable Requirement Lists (CDRL), and other contract related items.

Ensures personnel are properly qualified to perform duties effectively. Identifies successors for all key technical positions. Sets technical and performance objectives with subordinates. Conducts performance appraisals. Schedules leave usage. Ensures that all personnel are informed of and adhere to all pertinent Company policies and procedures.

Plans and schedules own activities. Behavior meets BAE ethical standards.

May prepare technical studies, reports, and proposals in support of project development goals.

Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies in various environments including shipyards.

Shares responsibility for self-development with immediate supervisor.

Individual must be fully competent in all aspects of the disciplines required to provide network engineering support and is capable of evaluating, selecting, and adapting and modifying standard techniques.

Must be able to meet DoD CWF requirements within 6 months.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Proven experience in leadership

  • Candidate must be thoroughly familiar with IT Infrastructure, network administration, classified LAN management, and wide area networks.

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high results

  • Ability to interact with and effectively present information to employees, management and customers

  • Ability to coach and mentor employees

  • High degree of personal drive, initiative and ability to withstand resistance

  • Experience configuring firewalls, routers, and switches

  • Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity issues

  • Experience designing and reconfiguring network architectures

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Experience with DISA STIGs

  • Experience with Host Based Security System (HBSS)

  • Experience with System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)

  • Checkpoint Firewall

  • CompTIA Security Certified

  • CCNA
