BAE Systems Senior Technical Specialist in Wallops Island, Virginia

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist to be part of our team. This position will be located in Wallops Island, VA at the Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC). The SCSC is located on a barrier island on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and is a tenant of the NASA s Wallops Flight Facility. SCSC provides live combat systems suites with platform specific radars and sensors and supports the following functions: combat system lifetime support engineering, platform certification, operational and technical evaluation, combat system training, interoperability testing and participates in at-sea exercises. SCSC provides a high-fidelity representative combat system of every ship in the AEGIS, Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) fleet today and those planned in the future.

The successful candidate will directly support the customer s Technical Director and his staff Navy s AEGIS programs in multiple warfare areas. Additionally, the candidate will manage the contractor Systems Engineering team and act as the contractor's Chief Engineer.

Other duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor activation budgets and participate in the development of project ROMs and associated material and labor estimates

  • Represent the organization as a technical point of contact

  • Interact with senior external partners on technical matters requiring cooperation between organizations

  • Participate in technical or design reviews, test or mission readiness reviews, and Program office budget reviews and planning sessions

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Minimum education and years of related work experience required:

  • High School Diploma and at least Ten (10) years demonstrated knowledge of the AEGIS, AEGIS BMD, SSDS, or DDG 1000 Programs to include technical understanding and ability to prepare complex and detailed technical and budgetary planning documents, reports, and presentations

  • Strong coordination, organization, teaming and communication abilities

  • Ability to develop solutions to a wide range of complex system-of-systems technical problems that require ingenuity, innovation and collaboration with multiple stakeholders

  • Ability to perform and understand multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Experience in schedule development and task planning for activating, operating, and maintaining complex Navy programs and projects, financial planning, developing staffing and operating budgets and tracking execution of project funds for allocation purposes

  • In-depth knowledge in Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) development and tracking for planning and budgeting

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of installation, operation, and maintenance of AEGIS, AEGIS BMD, SSDS, or DDG 1000 systems. Demonstrated ability to plan and budget for installation and operation of new developmental or established AEGIS, AEGIS BMD, SSDS or DDG 1000 systems

Security clearance requirements: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance (US Citizenship required). Selected candidate will receive a contingent offer and start date will be delayed until an interim Secret clearance is granted.

Preferred Skills and Education

Highly desired, but not required:

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of systems engineering processes, and the flow down of system requirements

  • Demonstrated ability as a team player who builds consensus among peers and builds effective relationships with multiple customers
