BAE Systems Supply Chain Liaison Procurement Engineer in Sterling Heights, Michigan

Job Description

This position can be located at any of the major Combat Vehicle sites.

The Procurement Engineer will be responsible for developing and managing supplier relationships to ensure on time delivery of products that meet BAE System s expectation for quality, delivery and cost. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Function as liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to resolve supplier performance issues and to provide technical support. Leads teams of Supplier and internal staff in collaboratively solving problems in Producibility, Quality, Inspection, Cost, Mistake-Proofing, Test, Reliability and Affordability.

  • Review and assess supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems. Provide feedback as appropriate on manufacturing methods and technologies. Improve quality, delivery & cost performance of suppliers through well thought out fact based improvement plans. Manage supplier improvement plans.

  • Analyze supplier quality & delivery metrics to identify trends and pinpoint systemic performance gaps and root causes.

  • Investigates and recommends potential suppliers based on assessments of response to specifications, costs, inspection of facilities, and historical performance. Evaluate alternative suppliers to ensure a smooth assembly flow of Combat Vehicle product.

  • Conduct/Lead investigations of major problems and/or special projects focusing on developing strong partnerships with suppliers. Lead suppliers through the corrective action process when supplier rejects are issued.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 4 years work experience or equivalent experience

The Procurement Engineer shall be detail-oriented and driven, work well independently and are committed to thinking outside of the box to achieve results. Procurement Engineer shall apply a disciplined approach to problem solving. A successful Procurement Engineer is able to integrate their technical knowledge with business acumen. Engineering and Supply Chain are seeking Procurement Engineer candidates with the following skills:

  • Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree and 4 years work experience or equivalent experience

  • Excellent collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and project/program leads to continuously drive improvement in the supply base

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency with personal computers and networking, specifically Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to analyze bills of material and to understand drawing key requirements

  • Ability to identify cost reduction opportunities

  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment

  • Ability to analyzes technical data, designs, preliminary specifications, manufacturing limitations, supplier facilities, and parts/equipment availability

Preferred Skills and Education

Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree and 5 years work experience or equivalent experience
