Section Manager to manage Design Support employees in York, PA.

The Design Section Manager will be providing expert functional direction their direct reports. They will possess the technical expertise to be able to give highly competent direction to their direct reports and know when to seek out expertise in areas where they need help.

Expectations: The Design Section Manager with support the Design Support functional Manager executing assigned initiatives promptly, completely and accurately.

Design Section Manager will produce highly accurate and effective designs in support of their programs.

Design Section Manager communicate actively, with rational and emotional intelligence resulting in open and effective communication with team members.

Design Section Manager will use internal motivations as encouragement, rather than external pressures.

Design Section Manager persuade through critique, by asking the right questions at the correct time to encourage the flourishing of great ideas.

Design Section Manager cheer their teams on, both within a design organization and publicly by promoting their work. Design Section Manager should inspire through enthusiasm and engagement.

Design Section Manager will support the Manager-Design Support as requested.

Design Section Manager will provide timely feedback on issues within their teams and communicate readily and openly with the Manager-Design Support.

Design Section Manager will be the face of BAE Design Management at their sites.

Design Section Manager will provide non-biased feedback on the performance of team members including providing information for use in the writing of performance reviews.

The Design Section Manager will provide direction and leadership to their team of designers and drafters. Assigns and tracks tasks and collects metrics on performance. Assumes PeopleSoft responsibility for direct reports assigned to their supervision. Reviews, verifies and signs off timecards. Completes employee performance reviews and salary planning in conjunction with the Manager-Design Support. Recruits and conducts interviews of design and drafting candidates. Coordinates with site representatives the onboarding of new hired design and drafting employees. Assists the Manager-Design Support in issues related to contract labor resources.

The Design Section Manager solves issues and provides direction to direct reports and offers solutions to their customers, whether internal or external.

The Design Section Manager will support program design assignments (80-90 % of the time) and support the functional organization (10-20 % of the time) by providing the services listed above. The Design Supervisor has the ability to impact their team and the programs they support across all of Combat Vehicles.

The Design Section Manager regularly communicates with the team and the next level of management, within the team, to other teams (programs) and to external customers.

The Design Section Manager will regularly conduct quality checks of the designs and documentation of their team.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Associate Degree with emphasis in engineering drafting/design or an equivalent combination of training and experience; plus a minimum of twelve additional years drafting and design experience, including eight years of advanced design concepts and applications.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Proficient in tolerance analysis and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Must be knowledgeable in Creo 4 , NX experience is a plus.

Proficient in use of applicable CAD equipment and drafting techniques including 3D modeling and manipulation of files.

Expert knowledge of military drawings and specifications, and applicable MILSPEC/STD's.

Expert product line knowledge at the component, subsystem, and system levels.

Expert knowledge of production methods and understanding of human factors.

Ability to provide direction to a design team.

Preferred Skills and Education

Preferred Education and Experience: Associate Degree with emphasis in engineering drafting/design or an equivalent combination of training and experience; plus a minimum of 15 additional years drafting and design experience, including ten years of advanced design concepts and applications.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Working knowledge of production methods and understanding of human factors.

Licenses/Certifications:

Certain positions may require the ability to obtain appropriate Security Clearance.
