BAE Systems Nuclear Weapons Project Manager in SE Albuquerque, New Mexico

Job Description

BAE Systems is looking for a Nuclear Weapons Project Manager to join our team for an exciting opportunity supporting sustainment of the Minuteman III (MM III) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system and implementation ofnewnuclear-capable Weapon Storage Facilities (WSFs). The MM III is a 1970s era weapon system and is scheduled to be retained as the United States military's prompt, global strike deterrent system until the early 2030s.Thenuclear-capable WSFs will provide enhanced operations and security measures in a consolidated facility that accommodates maintenance, storage, security, and support functions.

The Nuclear Weapons Project Manager will augment organic resources by providing expertise support to the government customer in maintaining the MM III or acquiring the necessary WSF nuclear surety, nuclear certification, and mission assurance requirements as detailed in Department of Defense, United States Strategic Command, and Air Force directives, manuals and instructions. The specific responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with minimizing and managing the risk that counterfeit or maliciously altered parts may enter and degrade the MM III system or introduce unknown content

  • Reviewing and providing assessment and assistance to programs on Nuclear Certification Impact Statements (NCIS), Certification Requirement Plans (CRP), Nuclear Safety Analysis Reports (NSAR), Nuclear Surety Evaluation Reports (NSER), Nuclear Surety Briefings, Point Papers, White Papers, Safety & Nuclear Surety Technical Memoranda, changes to the Master Nuclear Certification List (MNCL), Nuclear Certification Plans (NCP), Engineering Evaluation Reports (EER), Software Certification Plans (SCP), and compliance with applicable 91-series USAF Instructions

  • Reviewing ICBM Technical Order change recommendations, Engineering Technical Analysis Requests, and the completion of assigned action items from ICBM safety mishap investigations

  • Attending conferences and meetings to represent assigned activity. Developing working group meeting agendas, preparing and consolidating briefing materials, meeting minutes, and answers to action items assigned by other agencies or organizations

  • Conducting research in areas which require a moderate level of expertise and knowledge in areas of specialization and some related fields. Maintaining knowledge in area of specialization and awareness of developments in the remaining related fields, including extensive contributions to proposal efforts when requested by management

  • Performing various other duties as assigned by senior management

This position is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico near Kirtland Air Force Base.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education


  • High School/GED with 12 years of experience working with nuclear weapons or;

  • Associates Degree with 10 years of experience working with nuclear weapons or;

  • Bachelor of Science Degree with 8 years of experience working with nuclear weapons or;

  • Master of Science Degree with 6 years of experience working with nuclear weapons or;

  • PhD with 4 years of experience working with nuclear weapons

  • At least 8 years progressive responsibility in providing technical leadership.

  • Must be able to work independently, demonstrate strong initiative, and organize daily tasks with minimal supervision

  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance

  • Possess strong communication skills (oral and written) as well as the ability to interact with team members, external vendors, various levels of management and internal clients with assorted levels of computer experience

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Associates or Bachelor s degree with 20 years of experience working with nuclear weapons

  • Current U.S. Government security clearance highly desired (but not required)

  • Experiencewith nuclear weapons, specificallyrequirements for storing, handling, transporting, inspecting, assembling, disassembling, maintaining, and modifying nuclear warheads, bombs, missiles, reentry vehicles and systems, launchers, pylons, ejector racks, penetration aids, associated test and handling equipment,nuclear surety and safety highly desired
