BAE Systems Test Engineer II (Mechanical) in Rockville, Maryland

Job Description

I. BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

BAE Systems is looking for a full-time Mechanical Engineer to be a part of our Weapon System Test team supporting the OHIO Replacement/Successor and US TRIDENT/UK Vanguard Submarine Strategic Weapon System programs. The selected candidate will be working and interfacing with numerous engineering teams supporting Strategic Systems Programs.

II. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Duties and responsibilities which occupy a major portion of time and importance in the job. Incumbent(s) perform one or more of the following duties.)

  1. Working collaboratively in a team setting with mechanical and electrical team members supporting Weapon System Test, requirements definition, and Weapon System Safety efforts.

  2. Applying knowledge of engineering principles to support Mechanical requirements verification

  3. Assisting in the evaluation of technical documentation for system compatibility and potential impacts

  4. Developing a knowledge of the Weapons System subsystems

  5. Develop requirements, test plans, test procedures, and evaluation techniques for new emerging test programs

  6. Support on-site testing, data collection and analysis, track and solve test anomalies, and prepare test analysis reports

  7. Prepare charts, diagrams and reports expressing technical progress and accomplishments measured against specific plans

  8. Begin to develop areas of specialization and maintains cognizance of scientific and technological developments in the field

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Masters Degree from an accredited engineering program,Bachelor Degree from an accredited engineering program and two years of relevant experience, or six additional years of experience in lieu of a degree

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance

  • Experience in mechanical engineering design, fabrication, interface definition, systems integration, and/or requirements verification / system testing

  • Knowledge of Statics, Structures, Structural Stability, and Fluid Dynamics as well as material properties

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite

  • Ability to work independently in developing creative solutions

  • Ability to work and communicate well with management, customers and other contractors including clear and concise presentation/demonstration of advanced technical concepts

  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others

  • Good organizational, planning, and follow-up skills

  • Demonstrated time management, task tracking, organizational skills, and ability to read, understand, and follow requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel

Preferred Skills and Education

  • 3 5 years of relevant professional experience

  • Active DoD security clearance

  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM/3D Modeling

  • Experience with Systems Engineering principles including requirements development, allocation, and analysis

  • Experience developing test procedures for verification of complex systems

  • Working knowledge of Strategic Systems Programs

  • Experience or knowledge of SWS SSBN and/or SWS SSBN (R) submarine platforms

  • Working knowledge of IBM Rational DOORS software

  • Current D-5 TRIDENT SWS Technical / Operational Knowledge

  • Experience working within the SSP Test Program

  • Experience in Simulation Modeling and Analysis
