BAE Systems Sr. Program Manager (Modernization) in Radford, Virginia

Job Description

Reporting to the Program Director, Modernization the Radford Sr. Program Manager, Nitroglycerin / Solvent / Solventless Modernization will primarily serve as the lead for modernization these three major production areas within the Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RfAAP). The Sr. Program Manager will lead the team and support the overall mission of the organization to successfully implement projects on time/budget while enhancing customer satisfaction and growing the capability of our people to ensure future success. Specific duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:

o Responsible for all proposals and projects aligns with, Nitroglycerin, Solvent and Solventless Modernization projects which will include Requirements Definition, Design, Construction, Commissioning and formal handoff to the Radford Operations team.

o Supervises Project Managers/Project Coordinators within Radford, including making performance appraisals/evaluations.

o Supports in planning and execution of business financial objectives for orders, sales, gross margin, EBITA and cash for up to 5 years forecasted annually. Provides quarterly updates as part of regular business rhyme.

o Develops strategy, identifies/pursues/captures new business opportunities. Reviews and approves customer proposals. Develops strategy for supports and concludes negotiations with customers and suppliers (when required). Develops content and budget for Modernization organization overhead expense annually.

o Monitors program performance for schedule, technical soundness, quality, field reliability and financial objectives. Identifies and implements corrective actions, as required. Ensures all programs are reviewed and a recurring basis and have risk mitigation/opportunity exploitation plans in place.

o Maintains regular interface (meetings, telecons, IPT s, etc.) with customers on key programs. Ensures customer expectations are met, problems resolved, potential issues surfaced, mitigation plans in place, and potential new orders/business opportunities identified.

o Develops working relationships with other functions (supply chain, engineering, operations, finance, etc.). Establishes both formal and informal methods for sharing project management and construction management knowledge with less experienced personnel within the Modernization organization to further develop and enhance the overall OSI project management team. Supports the development of training programs and training plans to enhance the skills of all personnel within the group. Communicates with staff on business status/needs. Conducts formal performance and development reviews for direct reports (if required) and provides 360 degree feedback for others. Serves as Phase Review Chairman for other business areas.

o Identifies and assesses problem areas. Develops recovery plans with least impact to business and customer objectives.

o Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures. Supports the implementation of BAE Systems Lifecycle Management (LCM) gate review processes.

o Fosters capturing of Best Practices and Lessons Learned and ensures that the appropriate practices and lessons are properly applied throughout the business

o Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.

o Shares responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

o Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in Business Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or similar field. May consider experience in lieu of education.

o 10 years of work experience within Business Management, Program Management, Finance, Engineering or Supply Chain

o Eight (8) years relevant experience to include managing cross-functional teams to deliver commitments.

o Experience managing a portfolio or single program in excess of $50 million.

Preferred Skills and Education

o Master's Degree preferred

o Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalent

o Experience in managing projects for the US Department of Defense

o Experience managing chemical or industrial construction projects

o Prefer 12 years or more experience
