BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a Civil Engineer as part as our Facilities Department at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. The civil engineer will work on a variety of civil and structural related projects within the 7,000 acre site.

The civil engineer manages assigned facility projects from cradle to grave, which includes but not limited to meeting with customers to define project scope, determining conceptual design approach, developing and monitoring project budgets and schedules, handling communication during project execution, negotiating changes, creating a punch-list and certifying completion for final payment. Responsible for developing mechanical designs, drawings/sketches, scope-of-work, estimates for subcontract and materials, provide technical support and coordination to subcontractors and maintenance functions. Essential Functions

o Ability to plan, analyze, design, build, and maintain structures at a chemical plant facility. Is involved in project engineering for large or small plant improvements or additions and participates in the preparation of key plans and plant layouts.

o Performs structural design, field investigations and studies, mapping and surveying, construction layout, and inspection of construction.

o Performs project engineering on jobs which also require other engineering disciplines. Selects construction materials and methods; writes specifications; supervises the preparation of civil, architectural and structural drawings; controls cost; and manages work to meet project schedules.

o Performs civil engineering analyses for: piping support networks (water distribution systems and sprinkler systems); sewer system layouts and hydraulics: pumping systems; water and waste water treatment systems; road and railroad layouts, including grade, alignment, and drainage; and containment, diversion and treatment systems for pollution abatement. Also performs structural inspections, analyses and design work for bridges, tunnels, buildings, pipe supports, and foundation systems.

o Conducts inspections of existing facilities such as buildings, tunnels, roads, railroads, bridges, pipe bridges, and pipelines to determine the integrity and safety of the structure. Make recommendations concerning any needed modifications due to structural member failures.

o Oversees mapping and surveying functions which involve layout of new work and maintenance of records of aboveground and underground facilities.

o Develops plans and schedules for the construction phase of projects ensuring that materials, equipment, and personnel will be available to meet project schedules. Determines that work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, and good construction practices and within cost during the execution phase. Is also responsible for safe work practices.

o Analyzes loads and forces, and designs or approves adequacy of supporting members, systems, and equipment for construction activities.

o Determines or approves material composition of various concrete mixes to achieve desired strength, workability, and durability.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 4 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

o Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field from an accredited university

o Required 4 years experience in industrial / commercial construction.

o Must have a high level of attention to detail along with good organizational skills

o Ability to interpret civil and structural engineering specifications and construction drawings.

Preferred Skills and Education

o Professional Engineering Certification and project management experience desired.

o Preferred experience in the design and construction of chemical facilities that involve the use of acids, bases and solvents in the production of energetic materials.

o Knowledge of or experience in other typical industrial construction work tasks such as mechanical, piping, architectural, etc.

o Experience with supervision of craftsmen and subcontractors

o Familiar with Environmental and Safety awareness for construction sites

o Computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Internet

o Proficient or better in AutoCAD

o Familiar with Microsoft Project

o Familiar with local building codes and OSHA standards
