Job Description

  • Sets up and operates autoclaves and auxiliary equipment to cure and bond hard body armor plates according to specifications: Reads and interprets shop orders and authorization documents to determine bonding process specifications.

  • Selects parts and assemblies for simultaneous bonding, based on similarity of processing requirements and autoclave capacity.

  • Arranges jigs and fixtures containing parts and assemblies on bonding racks and positions racks in autoclave, manually or using equipment, such as hoist, forklift, or tow.

  • Inspects general condition of parts and assemblies, examines positioning of parts and assemblies in jigs and fixtures, and verifies that vacuum bag installation conforms to specifications prior to bonding.

  • Connects thermocouples and vacuum lines to fittings on jigs and fixtures and inside autoclave.

  • Adjusts manual controls or enters commands in computerized control panel to regulate and activate autoclave power supply, cooling system, vacuum, heat, and pressure gauges and recorders, and to close interlocking autoclave doors.

  • Monitors instruments, switches, and recorders and listens for warning signals during autoclave operation to ensure conformance to specifications, and modifies or aborts process as required.

  • Maintains manual or computerized autoclave processing records.

  • Operates curing ovens and presses with heated platens to cure and bond parts.

  • Suggests methods or procedures for improved operations to supervision or liaison personnel.

  • Performs de-bagging of autoclave runs.

  • Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word, while complying with written or verbal instructions.

  • Transports product. Requires occasionally transferring same weighting up to 40 lbs.

  • Transports assembled parts to shelving unit. Requires horizontally transferring same weighing up to 40 lbs., (10ft.) without mechanical assistance.

  • Physical application of push/ pull force to process product weighing approx.10 lbs continuously up to 10 hours per day.

  • Requires standing for up to 10 hours and walking up to 2 miles during assigned shift to access supplies and materials.

  • Required to perform visual inspection of work to ensure quality products;

  • While performing the duties, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk, however may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, balance, reach, grasp;

  • Must be able to perform repetitive duties at times.

  • Must wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) including safety glasses, steel toed or reinforced shoes and gloves. May be required to wear ear protection, respirator, face shields if performing work in operations which require additional PPE.

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to operate Auto Clave and auxiliary parts, follow work instructions and complete shop transactions.

  • Proficient skill in reading, interpreting and working from work instructions, templates/ equipment operating manuals.
