BAE Systems Electronic Systems (ES) located in Nashua NH is looking for a Materials Engineer to support the newly formed Materials Engineering Capability Group, and the Survivability, Targeting & Sensing Solutions (STS) Business Area. Responsibilities will include support to the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD)Missile Seeker program in the areas of Materials and Processes Engineering and Mechanical Engineering support to senior ME s. Additional responsibilities will include supporting company-wide initiatives related to Materials Engineering.

The individual selected for this position shall have demonstrated skills in the areas of both mechanical and materials engineering. The individual must be capable of supporting multiple projects at once, and capable of creative problem solving using a variety of skills and tools.

In this role, you will have the opportunity in assuring that Materials and Processes selected for use on the THAAD program are compliant with program requirements, as well as helping to assess questionable hardware for suitability in the field, and performing failure analysis and determining corrective action. You will be able to provide valuable technical support to Failure Review Boards as well as preparing detailed technical presentations will be required. A wide variety of tools and techniques may be utilized to provide results.

The role is multi-faceted and will allow you to engage and support company-wide initiatives to develop design guides and best practices related to Materials selection, usage and reliability.

The selected Materials Engineer is expected to have applicable experience in the following areas:

  • Selection and specification of materials, finishes, and heat treatments

  • Researching and or testing materials properties

  • Hands-on laboratory experience with some or all of the following; tensile testing, SEM/EDX, hardness testing, metallurgical examination

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 4 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Mechanical Engineer BS with Minor in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or related and 4 yrs experience orMechanical Engineer BS with Materials Sci/Eng MS and 3 years experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with project team collaboration experience

  • Motivated self-starter with creative problem solving ability

  • DOD Security Clearance , Active

  • Ability to interface and work cooperatively with external and internal customers

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Experience with mechanical/materials testing such as tensile, fatigue

  • Experience in mechanical and/or electronics failure analysis

  • Direct or indirect experience with analytical tools such as SEM/EDX, FIB, AUGER, ESCA, FTIR, X-Ray imaging, CT Scanning
