The Section Leader provides supervisory and mentoring responsibilities to a Section within HW Engineering.

Responsibilities of this position comprises applied program execution, functional leadership, talent management, and special initiatives/assignments focused on continuously improving the HW discipline.

The position requires demonstrated interpersonal skills, broad technical leadership expertise, and project management experience.

This position requires participation in the hiring process and is responsible for developing, counseling and evaluating performance of staff.

This position requires direct program support to Engineering design, analysis, testing, and support of the product through the lifecycle. Candidates should have experience leading teams and projects, managing schedules, generating responsible bids, assessing technical reviews and work products, tracking and trending metrics, implementing HW process, managing HW Initiatives, working with Deliverable Product, and supporting customers

Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as functional manager for 10-20 engineers.

  • Fulfill and negotiate staffing resources to support Program needs.

  • Support proposals, bids, BOEs, Execution reviews, Corrective Actions, technical reviews, Initiatives, and report generation.

  • Coach and Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.

  • Establish and monitor Functional Training Plans for staff.

  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies and rules.

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with peers and customers to resolve technical problems and implement solutions.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Bachelor Degree or higher in an engineering or scientific field.

Communication: Strong verbal and writing skills. Able to engage, mentor and inspire a team of 10 20 engineers.


  • 6 years relevant engineering design experience. Must have prior design experience and or manufacturing/ test experience in various phases of development or implementation.

  • Cost Account Manager (CAM) responsibilities.

  • Autonomy: Work is performed without appreciable direction. Regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment in technical areas. Exercises considerable judgment in determining objectives and approaches.

Preferred Skills and Education

Experience in DFM, DFT, and DTUPC applied design principles

  • Zero Defect design philosophy and practice. Experience with Design for Six Sigma, Root Cause Corrective Action investigations

  • Familiarity with system-level analysis, specification generation, and transition to production

  • Active Secret clearance

  • Masters or PhD degree in engineering or scientific field
