We are looking for entry-level candidates (December 2018 or May 2019 Graduates) to join our Reliability Science engineering team here at BAE Systems Electronic Systems. Our entry-level engineers gain experience across the system life cycle, from requirements development through integration, test, manufacturing, and sustainment phases.

As part of the Reliability Sciences engineering team you will have ample opportunities to develop complex engineering and leadership skills to lead future technology development. The successful candidate for this position is a self-starter that will perform critical work in more than one of the major disciplines of Reliability Sciences engineering: Reliability, Maintainability, Testability and Systems Safety.

The Reliability Sciences Engineer learns and performs the following Reliability, Maintainability and Testability tasks:

  • Analyzes customer provided requirements and develops a reliability, maintainability and testability program and plan(s) to achieve customer reliability objectives.

  • Performs reliability and maintainability models and predictions to demonstrate compliance and track performance; performs maintainability predictions and testability calculations to demonstrate compliance and track performance.

  • Analyzes environmental thermal and electrical conditions and performs stress /de-rating calculations.

  • Performs maintenance task analysis and preventative maintenance analysis

  • Performs failure mode and effect analyses (D-FMEA, FMECA, and P-FMEA) and formulates mathematical models, to identify items posing excessive failure and safety risks and support proposed changes in design.

  • Provides guidance and recommendations to designers and management as an active participant on design teams to ensure reliability and maintainability objectives are met.

  • Understands Design for Reliability (DfR) techniques and applies them on design projects.

  • Determines test profiles for units requiring environmental/reliability growth type testing and specifies specific objectives of the tests and defines successes criteria.

  • Performs Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) including data mining and trend analysis, failure analysis, root cause (RC) analysis, corrective action (CA) tasks employing industry RC/CA techniques and company processes.

The Reliability Sciences Engineer learns and performs the following System Safety tasks:

  • Analyzes customer provided requirements and develops a system safety plan to achieve customer safety objectives and compliance.

  • Reviews product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems.

  • Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering/technical/scientific field with 0 or more years of relevant engineering experience within the Reliability Sciences disciplines.

  • Experience working in a project and team based environment

  • A desire to learn and take on challenging work

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Knowledge and/or experience with the principles of electrical design

  • Knowledge and/or experience with the principles of mechanical design

  • Internship, Co-op or Research experience

  • Demonstrate time and task management with great organizational skills

  • Strong communication skills

Highly Desirable (these skills/experiences are not required but will set a candidate apart from the rest):

  • Reliability, Maintainability & Safety analysis and reliability growth software tools experience / awareness using Windchill Quality Solutions (RELEX) and ReliaSoft preferred.

  • Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) and Root Cause Failure Analysis experience desired.

  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) / Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) process, including a good understanding of circuit analysis and schematics

  • Reliability principles and practices, and understanding of root cause analysis

Reliability prediction calculations in accordance with industry standards (e.g. MIL-HDBK-217, empirical test data, etc.
