BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Provide strong leadership in commodity strategy development, supplier selection and development, and execution of commodity strategies with significant benefit to the enterprise. This position has been created due to the critical importance of a robust $75M annual connector, cable, and harness sourcing strategy for Electronic Systems sector as BAE Systems significantly Ramps 2 Rate its manufacturing output. This position will be counted on to expand commodity management strategy and value proposition, be depended on to strengthen relationships, improve operational excellence (i.e. Quality, Delivery), and deliver significant year-over-year direct material affordability savings. The Commodity Manager will be expected to effectively and independently manage and interface with senior leadership of major connector, cable, and harness suppliers, provide leadership within a cross-functional commodity team of procurement, supplier development engineering, design engineering, supplier quality assurance engineering, and strategic sourcing personnel, and facilitate key commodity strategies of benefit to the sector.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for the overall development, implementation and growth strategies of the connector, cable, and harness commodity to support business needs.

  2. Lead through influence a cross functional commodity team consisting of team members in Supplier Quality, Engineering, Supplier Development, Procurement, and Strategic Sourcing.

  3. Manage all aspects of the supplier relationship, monitor and communicate supplier performance. Develop new preferred suppliers and establish sunset plans for suppliers not meeting Partner 2 win objectives.

  4. Develop, implement and track improvement / partnership plans.

  5. Develop expertise within connector, cable and harness commodity, understand industry trends etc. to ensure assure we partner with world-class, industry leading suppliers to support business objectives and technology alignment.

  6. Lead and develop process improvement initiatives with commodity.

  7. Assess supplier capabilities; coordinate and communicate supplier activities and issues with in the business; coordinate standardization and best practice development and sharing across the business

  8. Lead on-site supplier visits

  9. Conduct and lead business reviews with suppliers; investigate quality and delivery concerns and contribute to / oversee improvement plans.

  10. Other duties as assigned.

OTHER JOB RELATED INFORMATION:

Experience managing suppliers along with supplier, cost, schedule, and quality attributes; ability to evaluate program needs, identify and develop integrated and detailed supply chain and return to green plans are required.

The Commodity Manager should possess a solid understanding of Supply Chain Management with specific expertise in the areas of strategic procurement including supplier negotiation, supplier evaluation and selection. This individual should have knowledge of manufacturing processes as well as an understanding of design and quality requirements as they relate to various components and assemblies.

Travel: Approximately 20-30%

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 10 years related experience.

Master s Degree with a minimum of 8 years related experience.

Preferred Skills and Education

Connector, cable, and harness experience

Commodity or Category Management / Procurement Experience

APICS, CPM and or CPSM preferred.

Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean.

MRP, ERP systems

MS Office
