Job Description

The Functional Manager for Geospatial Production oversees the GP&S geospatial technician and support engineering organization, responsible for staffing, personnel development, and coordinated lessons learned across multiple GP&S site operations. This position will oversee the management of 170 geospatial technicians at the following GP&S sites: Rome-NY, Mt Laurel-NJ, Pittsburg-PA and St Louis-MO.

The successful candidate will oversee personnel working on content production projects as they support cost, schedule and performance requirements. This position ensures appropriate processes are selected, followed and continually reviewed for ways to reduce cost of delivering content and capabilities to our GP&S customers. The Geospatial Production Functional Manager is part of the GP&S leadership team which includes program office, finance and business development functions to define opportunities and approaches for required solutions. Responsibilities include ensuring content of new business proposals are both technically and financially sound, and strategic technology and R&D plans fit to business objectives.

Functional Management of teams at all GP&S sites include:

  • People: Employee Advocate

  • Facilitate employee program assignments

  • Ensure department objectives match business direction

  • Direct employee career development

  • Ensure training requirements are achieved

  • Monitor and provide feedback on employee performance

  • Communication - flow down / flow up

  • Performance: Support Program Managers, Chief Engineers and IPT Leads

  • Interview and hire to maintain required staff levels

  • Help resolve technical, staffing and personnel issues

  • Review, develop, approve and support new bids

  • Track project execution

  • Ensures programs follow company and program processes

  • Coordinate process improvement efforts

Travel:

  • Ability to travel to each GP&S site as needed to support site engagement and oversight. Normal business rhythm includes multiple trips to each GP&S site each year.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • U.S. CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED. The position requires a DoD Secret clearance, which includes a government security investigation and meeting/maintaining eligibility requirements for access to classified information

  • Strong Geospatial background

  • 10 years managing, staffing and developing personnel in a technical environment

  • Experience with large teams and understanding of multi-site challenges

  • Excellent teamwork, communication and coordination skills

  • Imaginative, self-motivated, self-starter, with excellent communicator including presentation skills, and strong leadership skills and the

  • Ability to lead or conduct trade studies and analyze results

  • Ability to interface with senior internal and customer personnel on significant community matters, often requiring coordination between organizations

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Understanding of current and future national imagery system interfaces and operations

  • Experience tracking geospatial market for opportunities to integrate cost-effective tools into operations

  • Experience with strategic technology planning and investments
