BAE Systems Software Engineering Manager Advanced Munitions in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Description

BAE Systems in Minneapolis MN is seeking a talented, experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead and further develop a team of engineers developing software used in advanced munitions systems. This will include responsibility for resource planning, identifying staff development needs, cost and schedule estimation and tracking, metrics, process tailoring and implementation, and technical leadership.

The engineering development effort is performed in fast paced, iterative development cycles, which support multiple product deliveries with increasing functionality.

U.S. Citizenship required.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Duties include planning, monitoring, and control of the execution of complex software architecture and designs on one or more munitions projects

  • Establish required management systems and provide leadership to assure the effective performance of work, close monitoring of cost and schedule, and take timely and effective corrective action

  • Ensure effective communication between assigned engineers and all other participants in the design process

  • Maintain communication to keep management informed of progress and results

  • Use existing processes and evolve processes to optimize the repeatable execution of current and future development efforts

  • Provide technical leadership for the software engineering discipline; design, integration, and test efforts; including identification and exploitation of promising new technologies or techniques

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • BS with 10yrs or MS with 8yrs experience; degree in Computer Science or Software/Computer/Electrical Engineering

  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex software projects as well as practical systems engineering skills required to integrate core technical disciplines

  • Previous experience in project leadership role or functional management

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, lead, and motivate technical teams

  • Requires extensive background in embedded software development in C and C

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Experience working in an environment compliant with SEI CMMI Level 3 or higher

  • Use of MS Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Experience in the area of missile guidance and/or navigation, GPS, Radar systems

  • Real-time software development, including flight software

  • Software architecture concept development; proposal development experience

  • Experience leading multiple projects at one time

  • Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalent
