BAE Systems FAST Labs - RF EW and Electronics - Strategic Development Director in Merrimack, New Hampshire
BAE Systems FAST Labs newest product line, RF Electronic Warfare and Electronics (R2), is looking for a Technical Development Director to lead strategic product development, with a primary focus on advanced development systems. R2 is an end-to-end product line with R&D efforts ranging from materials through product development and demonstration. This director will champion the technology strategy for the product line, assisting and augmenting the Technical Area Leads as needed to drive organizational strategy.
The position can be based in Merrimack, New Hampshire or Burlington, MA,.( strongly preferred)
Possibility that the position could be located Arlington, VA, or Austin, TX.
Typical Education & Experience
A Technical Development Manager supports a portion of a product line s strategic plan by capturing and executing sponsored research programs. The TDM guides disruptive technologies into from research efforts into BAE System s Business Areas products and services. They are part of the technical team and support capture and execution of a technical thrust by being a trusted advisor to our customers working through senior researchers.
The RF Subsystem group integrates advanced electronics with apertures and arrays to provide enabling subsystem capabilities for multifunction payloads. We conduct trade studies of hardware components, architectures, processing paradigms and integrations techniques to drive to the optimal solution for each mission. We work closely with adjacent groups that develop enabling components and algorithms and support operational analysis of new capabilities. The selected candidate can work from MER., NH., Austin, TX, Arlington, VA., Burlington, MA.
Lead technical proposal efforts to capture new competitively awarded contract research and development efforts
Interface with our core customers such as DARPA and the Government Labs and develop innovative solutions for business area needs
Execute, and implement multifunction RF research projects involving complex RF/digital sub-systems often involving multiple disciplines
Investigate the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to complex RF architectures and potential products such as digital phased arrays and small form factor EW and COMMs Systems
Contribute to external publications (conference papers /presentations, journal articles, and /or books)
Provide project management reporting and documentation
Manage project tasks (resource allocation and scheduling) for small/medium groups (5-10)

Designs, validates, and brings new products to market. Specifies precise new product functional requirements, designs, tests and integrates components to produce final designs, and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety. Designs, develops, executes and evaluates fitness-for-use testing, product specifications and process validation plans, creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of materials.
Typical Education and Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience
Demonstrated experience cultivating relationships with new and existing customers, including:
Introductory discussions to establish customer interest in a research topic
Shaping to influence the structure of new program starts
Generation of customer-focused abstracts, white papers and proposals
Ability to work with internal and external collaborators to form a winning team
Candidate must be technically knowledgeable in RF and digital systems and components for all RF applications including: radar, Comms, ISR, and EW
Candidate must be experienced with short turn hardware development and demonstration
Preferred Skills and Education
Preferred Education: MS or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related field
Required Skills and Education
Minimum 5 years leading a diverse organization across multiple sites with different cultures and experience levels.
Minimum 10 years of collaboration and the ability to achieve goals and produce outcomes through influencing skills.
Ability to form a vision and implement action plans to achieve that vision.
Minimum 10 years of technical leadership experience and mission/domain knowledge of systems and capabilities relevant to the business.
Proven ability to share and transfer technology across organizational boundaries to the benefit of our customers and the business.
Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite
Aligned with the BAE Systems Code of Conduct.
Eligible for a Top Secret Security Clearance with a current SSBI.
