BAE Systems Systems Engineering Solution Architect in McLean, Virginia
The Intelligence & Security Sector is seeking a Solution Architect responsible for systems engineering solution development across the sector. This position will report directly to the Director of Solution Architects for the Sector.
The Solution Architect (SA) will serve as a core technical subject matter expert in model-based systems engineering, and an engineering design authority for pursuits across the Federal Defense, Intelligence, and Civil markets. The SA is a member of a team of technical experts and will be given opportunities to lead and grow. The position will develop technical solutions in response to Government requests for information, market surveys, and requests for proposal. The SA will lead development of technical solutions and must be familiar with and contribute to management, staffing, schedule, and cost solutions.
The SA will be expected to build and maintain deep technical expertise, as well as developing winning solutions. The SA will participate in early phase marketing, such as concept development, white paper generation, and directed research, and may direct research or intern teams to develop or enhance key capabilities enabling expansion into new lines of business.
Duties and Responsibilities include leading and developing systems integration solutions, understanding critical customer program goals, and developing winning, best-value solutions. The SA will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in model based systems engineering technologies, and develop additional, adjacent skills. The SA may be given oversight of other staff and interns to accomplish prototypes and product evaluations, develop proofs-of-concept, and perform analysis of alternatives. The SA must be able to develop a technical solution and communicate it to a proposal, management, and cost team, and lead development of successful proposals through the business winning lifecycle. The SA may be asked to serve as a public face for BAE Systems I&S in their area of expertise, and to collaborate across BAE Systems. Strong written and verbal communications skills are a must.
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years' work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
Bachelor Degree in appropriate discipline (e.g. Systems Engineering, Computer Sciences, Mechanical Engineering) and a minimum of 15 years of experience, including 5 years of model based systems engineering experience.
Demonstrated ability to lead and win complex opportunities with the Federal Government. Should have led winning proposals with total contract value on individual deals over $75M.
Experience supporting large-scale proposal efforts, comprising a diverse team of technical and operational specialists, and involving the development of novel or innovative new solutions.
Demonstrated ability to decompose complex system and software requirements into easy to understand solutions with clear value propositions.
Ability to think strategically and communicate effectively at the most senior levels of government (customer) or corporate management (company) to articulate the understanding of their mission needs and requirements, and to communicate the value and benefit of BAE Systems solutions
Preferred Skills and Education
Knowledge of current model based systems engineering design principles and end to end systems integration efforts.
Knowledge of system engineering development and integration methodologies including requirement engineering, configuration management, technical baseline management, cost estimating and analysis, and decision support methodologies.
Knowledge and understanding of project management methodologies, including scope, cost and schedule, and resource management, including Earned Value Management.
Experience collaborating across organizations and OEMs, participating in industry forums and conferences, writing and presenting technical papers.
Registered Professional Engineer.
Master s Degree in Systems Engineering and/or post-graduate engineering certificate preferred.
