BAE Systems is looking for entry level Design Engineer for our Manassas Virginia, Space Systems hardware design group. We are seeking an individual experienced in digital logic design and/or analog circuit design and an interest in exposure to RF design. Digital ASIC experience is a strong plus. We develop Phase-Lock Loops (PLLs), custom high-speed GHz digital blocks (in CMOS, CML, and ECL), Data converters, RF converters, LVDS circuitry, and memory designs, integral to space applications. Other circuits include RTL and standard-cell based digital control and signal processing designs. Typical circuit speeds vary from 10MHz digital to >5GHz (both analog and digital).

You would be a member of the team whose products have been deployed in commercial, civil, and national security space missions; including GPS, weather monitoring, satellite TV and radio, exploring the universe; most notably the Mars rovers, Spirit and Opportunity. With this job, you will have the opportunity to be an integral part of developing hardware from concept to deployment.

As a designer, you must have a good intuitive and mathematical understanding of transistor-level circuit design, and should understand layout issues that drive digital, analog, and RF performance. You would learn to take your circuits through all phases of design, simulation, layout, verification, and test.

Your role would give you the ability to be able to identify and evaluate alternative circuit topologies (including novel ones), analyze design trade-offs, and present the results in a clear and concise way. This includes working with the IC CAD tools to optimize the design and layout while simulating/verifying the circuit. This includes integrating circuits into ASICs andSoCdesigns.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Scientific field

  • Exposure to CAD tools (or similar to): Synopsys or Cadence Virtuoso and Assura; Agilent ADS and Dynamic Link; Matlab

  • Experience with IC design from simulation through layout and physical verification

  • Knowledge of HDL language (VHDL, Verilog)

  • Strong written and oral communication skills (including Microsoft Office)

  • Familiarity with Linux and Microsoft Windows environments

Preferred Skills and Education

  • MSEE or equivalent

  • Experience with any of the following areas:

  • Digital design specification definition

  • VLSI concentration and mixed-signal, analog, RF Microwave exposure

  • Testing experience with digital circuits, analog, RF, Microwave

  • RTL design

  • RTL verification

  • Design for test insertion

  • Synthesis

  • Static Timing Analysis

  • Test pattern generation

  • Physical Design

  • Digital hardware test & bring-up

  • Experience with Mentor Graphics Modelsim or Questasim and Synopsys backend tools

  • Programming and scripting skills: C, C , TCL, PERL, Bash, Python, Ruby

  • Experience in RFIC/mixed-signal/VLSI IC development

  • Automated testing (Matlab, GPIB, Labview etc)

  • Linux scripting to automate design tasks

  • Verilog-A, Verilog, Verilog-AMS, and/or VHDL

  • Cadence Encounter or Synopsis a plus

  • Digital Signal Processing a plus

  • RF and mixed-signal analysis a plus
