BAE Systems Technical Operations Manager in Lexington, Massachusetts

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced manager to oversee the Lexington MA manufacturing and Technical Operations team. The unique thermal imaging detector component manufacturing process requires manual assembly, environmental test, functional test, and visual mechanical inspections. The individual should have previous experience working in a microelectronic-based manufacturing environment within a fully certified clean room. The manager will be responsible for all quality, cost, and delivery metrics for this medium sized production team. The leader must work with the associated technical support team in driving resolution to all build issues in a fast-paced production environment.

Primary responsibilities are shown below:

Responsible forall aspects of the manufacturing, quality, cost and delivery of highly complex thermal imaging detector components.

Manages the assembly and test of products to all applicable specifications and requirements.

Directs the production and manufacturing engineering support personnel.

Identifies and maintaining staffing plans for the fabrication, assembly, test, and manufacturing engineering support functions required to support the build of product.

Ensures that a defect-free product is delivered to the customer meeting their requirements.

Develops and ensures the implementation of plans designed to achieve production schedules.

Establishes and oversees production expense budgets so that total cost objectives are achieved.

Controls direct labor, indirect labor, expense and overhead accounts to ensure profit goals are achieved.

Develops and maintains a continuous improvement program with the goal of meeting or exceeding business and program requirements.

Utilizes all the tools available to drive a Zero Defect culture throughout the factory (Root Cause Corrective Action, Corrective Action Review Board, Kaizen events, Lean and Six-Sigma projects).

Plans, interprets, and implements Company policies and standards to ensure compliance to the requirements for Security, ESH, ISO, etc.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

BS in Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent 15 years of working experience.

Requires strong manufacturing background and experience in complex electronic based production environment.

Requires strong capability to lead and work in a team setting.

Must be self-motivated, independent, and capable of leading a medium sized technical and manufacturing team.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer first attitude.

Must be capable of leading large and small team projects of a highly technical nature.

Demonstrated experience supporting product development and NPI (New Product Introduction) transition of complex assemblies into a production environment.

Must be a US citizen eligible for a DoD security clearance.

Preferred Skills and Education

In depth knowledge of automated testing and process equipment used for in-process and final build and testing of thermal imaging products.

Supply chain support experience desirable.

Previous experience leading both technical teams and manufacturing teams.

Familiarity with ISO 9001/ AS9100 quality systems and DoD manufacturing and test standards.

Six-Sigma Black Belt and Lean certified.
