BAE Systems RDX Construction Manager in Kingsport, Tennessee

Job Description

BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a Construction Manager to support large new construction and retrofit projects at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, TN.

The Construction Manager works with subcontractors, in-house engineers, procurement and teammates within the Program Management group to ensure projects are on schedule, on budget, executed safely, and achieve the required quality standards. This position is part of a team that knows a little extra effort is needed, but enjoys a balance between work and home life. This Construction Manager - will report to the OSI Construction Director and be responsible for the execution of various programs primarily located at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant (HAAP). Specific duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Overall Construction Management: Overall responsibility for executing construction activities through subcontractor selection, coordination, and oversight and leading the required team through all aspects of execution from proposal through commissioning and turn over to production.

  2. Risk / Opportunity Management: Support Program manager through Risk / Opportunity Identification, assessment, mitigation, and tracking.

  3. Management Meetings. Assists the Senior Program Manager in upper management meetings and in customer briefings/presentations.

  4. Construction Oversight and reporting on program execution in the following areas:

  • Subcontractor Integration

  • Scope Management/tracking

  • Time Management (schedules)

  • Cost Management

  • Quality Management

  • Construction Progress / Construction Monitoring

  • Production Coordination

  • Coordination with Support Groups (Safety, Environmental, Security, Quality, etc.)

  • Projects Reporting including regular reports to the Senior Program Manager

The Construction Manager will also:

  • Solve complex technical problems by providing leadership for developing solutions or work arounds and their implementation.

  • Communicate summaries and recommendations to the Senior Project Manager based on assessment program issues.

  • Determine project risks and coordinates appropriate mitigation activities.

  • Provide input to the program with regards to the impact of Risks and Opportunities on the schedule.

  • Provide input/assessment to design/build and construction bid packages and bid evaluations.

  • Support preparation of proposals, cost estimates, and establish budgets for various programs.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

HS diploma with 14 years of progressive construction experience (progressive: hands on works, oversight/quality, superintendent, etc.) is preferred; however, Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience is acceptable.

Minimum 8 years experience in oversight and management of federal (DOD is preferred), state/utilities, and/or industrial construction projects.

OSHA 30 Hour training

Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Excel

Experience working with subcontractors for a variety of construction and skilled trades

Experience in confirming field execution of technical requirements

Experience with pre-commissioning, handover, and turnover of completed construction works

Certification/training in 1-2 areas of field quality control

Preferred Skills and Education

Greater than 15 years of construction/field experience is preferred.

Experience reviewing and interpreting technical documents (engineering specifications and drawings), performing bid evaluations, reviewing construction schedules and forecasting work plans, and coordination of multiple construction contractors preferred.

Experience supporting large/mega programs (valued in excess of $400 Million) preferred.
