Electronic Systems US Defense Process Manager, reporting to the Manager of ES Engineering Process and Governance, will be responsible for effective integration, support and compliance of the US Defense Engineering Process.
The selected individual must be able to operate independently with the ability to lead and influence others in a matrixed environment. The candidate must possess the skills necessary to drive change across the US Defense sector footprint, including cross-functional collaboration.
This role includes leading the US Defense Engineering Process Leadership team to ensure effective cross discipline process integration, process compliance, and continuous improvement through collaboration with Business Area and Discipline Directors and their staff while driving closure of strategic US Defense and sector level Engineering objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the US Defense Engineering organization in the preparation for and participation in external audit activities including CMMI, AS9100D and customer Audits.
Leading the yearly assessment of US Defense Engineering to ensure that the rigor we expect in the US Defense Engineering development process is being implemented and that program engineering teams are using the required processes. This includes the planning and resourcing of audits, and assessing, reviewing and analyzing audit findings.
Supporting the Fast Start AS9145 Project, representing Engineering on a high visibility cross functional team to bring the capability and requirements of the AS9145 and AS6500 standards to the US Defense organization to left-shift manufacturing efforts into the development phase of the lifecycle to ensure production readiness is achieved before entering production.
Partnering with US Defense Engineering Business Area leaders to provide resources for process selection and tailoring on projects with engineering content.
Applying process improvement and engineering methodologies and principles across the Organization to establish, deploy, and maintain processes that are in alignment with Enterprise-level processes and adopted standards. This includes driving improvements in the organization to achieve best-in-class, tailorable, and functional engineering processes.
Facilitating a quarterly assessment of ES Engineering performance though a standard set of engineering metrics that provides the insight necessary to confidently direct actions and improvements across the sector.
Support the Manager of ES Engineering Process and Governance in developing/modifying, as needed, the ES Engineering process strategy, governance frameworks, and execution plans to support the overall ES strategy.
Create and deliver training to diverse audiences including offerings on the US Defense Engineering Process, Lifecycle Management (LCM), and LCM Independent Design Reviews.
Provide effective ownership of the LCM Independent Design Reviews process for the ES Sector including governance and compliance activities for the Operational Assurance Statement (OAS) for ES Engineering. This includes administration of the IDR Management Tool, delivering training, ensuring US Defense compliance in all LCM IDR activities and coordinating Engineering s biannual OAS submission to the ES Quality organization.
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
BS in a technical field and 12 years experience (MS preferred)
10 years of Engineering management experience
Experience with project planning and execution including staffing, scheduling, and cost tracking
Experience leading cross functional/organizational teams
Proven leadership managing projects and interfacing with customers
US citizen eligible for a Secret security clearance
