The Space Systems product line is seeking a Lead Hardware Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced optical sensors and laser communication payloads.

The individual will lead engineering teams through all phases of the product life cycle from conceptual development through detail design, qualification, and production support. The engineer must be a self-starter who can work with a multi-disciplinary team to identify potential hurdles in the product development and proactively lead the engineering team to achieve program cost, schedule, and technical goals. Candidates should have experience managing schedules, generating responsible bids, assessing technical reviews and work products, implementing the hardware development process, and supporting customers. Candidates must be able to collaborate with Systems Engineering, Operations, Procurement, Quality, and PMO to develop a product. Must have a technical background in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and had prior practical design experience on development programs.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI POLY clearance

  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams consisting of mechanical, electrical, and optical engineers.

  • Strong communication and writing skills

  • Strong technical leadership, an effective team player, and a competent individual contributor

  • Able to multitask effectively with agility

  • Able to work effectively in a borderless environment

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams developing space payloads

  • Prior Cost Account Manager (CAM) experience, including managing earned value metrics, such as Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI)
