BAE Systems Manager Craft II, Pipefitter in Honolulu, Hawaii

Job Description

BAE Systems Hawaii Shipyards is looking for Pipefitting Craft Manager. The Craft Manager oversees the daily work performed in the Pipefitting Department. The Craft Manager is responsible for assigning and monitoring the completion of work, as well as providing technical assistance, and managing the workforce within the Department. The Craft Manager is expected to identify and ensure that appropriate actions are taken to support the timely and effective completion of assigned tasks. This includes ensuring that company policies and practices are followed in all phases of project performance and personnel-related functions, including but not limited to the hiring and supervision of employees, employee performance management, terminations, promotions and demotions. The Craft Manager also is responsible for ensuring that employees comply with Company policies and procedures, and the requirements of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The Craft Manager reports directly to the Production Manager.

The Craft Manager supports the Planning and Estimating phase by providing accurate work scope and hours for all project bids. Oversees and maintains department budget.

Some of the key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring that the Department is pursuing Company goals for Safety, Quality and Productivity.

  • Developing and/or reviewing project schedules and budgets during the planning phase.

  • Allocating personnel and resources to efficiently support all contracts (including shift work).

  • Overseeing and monitoring schedule performance, including review of ongoing and upcoming projects, investigation of late activities, project supervision, and the development of practical solutions.

  • Monitoring and evaluating project budget performance, including review of ongoing and upcoming projects, development of productivity enhancements and investigation of over-budget items.

  • Monitoring productivity across all shifts, including the amount and type of work assigned as well as the quality and quantity of work accomplished.

  • Performing personnel related functions including, but not limited to, the supervision of employees, performance management, workforce reductions, promotions, demotions and discipline.

  • Ensuring that employees understand and adhere to Company policies.

  • Training and motivating employees in the areas of technical knowledge, safety, environmental and communication.

  • Managing schedules, approving time and time off requests

Typical Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience

18 Years with HS

14 Years with AA

12 Years with BS

10 Years with MS

Required Skills and Education

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must hold a valid U.S. driver s license

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain base access at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam

  • Must have at least 8 years of Pipefitting trade experience and 3-5 years supervisory experience

  • Must have previous experience in the Maritime and/or ship building industry

  • Must know how to read pipe drawings and calculate pipe requirements through the effective use of standard pipe formulas.

  • Working knowledge of piping systems on board marine vessels or equivalent. Thorough knowledge of equipment, work processes and techniques used in measuring, fitting and welding pipe.

  • Thorough working knowledge of NAVSEA specifications, NAVSEA Standard items, MIL-STD 177E, NAVSEA 0900-LP-001-7000, NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248, USCG, ABS, and other marine guidelines.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook)

  • Must be proficient in using computers and office equipment (copier, scanner and fax)

  • Must have experience monitoring and evaluating project budget performance and schedules

  • Must have the ability to monitor productivity across all shifts including the amount and type of work assigned as well as the quality and quantity of work accomplished

  • Must be able to interact with a variety of people in a variety of settings

  • Must have the ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Must be able to monitor and evaluate project budget performance including review of ongoing and upcoming projects, develop productivity enhancements and investigate budget inconsistencies

  • Must possess the ability to support and monitor productivity across all shifts, including the amount and type of work assigned, as well as the quality and quantity of work accomplished

  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing

  • Must be able to board ships, enter confined spaces with limited visibility and have the ability to climb up and down stairs and/or ladders of varying heights to complete the job or inspections

  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors under all weather conditions

  • Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment
