BAE Systems Nuclear Surety Technical Lead in Hill AFB, Utah

Job Description

BAE Systems is looking for a Nuclear Surety Technical Lead to join our team for an exciting opportunity supporting sustainment efforts for the Minuteman III (MM III) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system. The MM III is a 1970s era weapon system and is scheduled to be retained as the United States military's prompt, global strike deterrent system through the 2030s.

The Nuclear Surety Technical Lead will augment the government customer by providing weapon system expertise in maintaining the nuclear surety, nuclear certification, and mission assurance programs for the MM III weapon system in accordance with requirements detailed in Department of Energy, Department of Defense, United States Strategic Command, and Air Force directives, manuals and instructions. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to accomplish the following activities while leading a team of subject matter experts and engineers accomplishing the same:

  • Assist the USAF customer in the application of Nuclear Surety Principles derived from Department of Energy, Department of Defense and Department of the Air Force regulations to a variety of nuclear weapon system acquisition and sustainment activities.

  • Develop, review and coordinate Nuclear Certification Impact Statements (NCIS), Certification Requirement Plans (CRP), Nuclear Safety Analysis Reports (NSAR), Nuclear Surety Evaluation Reports (NSER), Nuclear Surety Briefings, Point Papers, White Papers, Safety & Nuclear Surety Technical Memoranda, changes to the Master Nuclear Certification List (MNCL), Nuclear Certification Plans (NCP), Engineering Evaluation Reports (EER) and Software Certification Plans (SCP).

  • Review ICBM Technical Order change recommendations, Engineering Technical Analysis Requests, and the completion of assigned action items from ICBM safety mishap investigations

  • Attend conferences and meetings to represent assigned activity. Developing working group meeting agendas, preparing and consolidating briefing materials, meeting minutes, and answers to action items assigned by other agencies or organizations

  • Conduct research in areas which require a high level of expertise and knowledge in areas of specialization and some related fields. Maintaining knowledge in area of specialization and awareness of developments in the remaining related fields, including extensive contributions to proposal efforts when requested by management

  • Evaluate plans and criteria for technical activities and recommending alternatives as required to comply with customer and company obligations.

  • Direct project activities or segments of major projects responsible for achievement of schedule, cost, and technical performance objectives. Prepare project execution plan and identify technical and business resources needed. Review status of projects and budgets, manage schedules and prepare status reports. Assess issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Provide technical and analytical guidance to project team.

  • Direct day to day activities of assigned employees and handle other duties as assigned.

This position is located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree with 10 years of experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree with 8 years of experience working with nuclear weapon systems

  • Master of Science Degree with 6 years of experience working with nuclear weapon systems

  • PhD with 3 years of experience working with nuclear weapon systems

  • 10 yrs experience in direct Program Management

  • Able to obtain and retain a Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance

  • Able to work independently and demonstrate strong initiative and an ability to organize assigned daily tasks and the tasks of subordinates with no supervision

  • Possess strong communication skills (oral and written) as well as the ability to interact with team members, external vendors, various levels of management and internal clients with assorted levels of computer experience

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Skills and Education

Bachelor s degree in a technical field and 20 years of experience working with nuclear weapon systems; current U.S. Government security clearance highly desired (but not required); experience with ICBM weapon systems, specifically nuclear surety and safety requirements, coding, targeting, training, and maintenance or operations highly desired.
