BAE Systems GBSD Physicist in Hill AFB, Utah
For the past 50 years, the United States Air Force has operated the Minute Man III (MMIII) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile system (ICBM) as the land based component to America s nuclear triad.Recently, the congress of the United States has approved the Air Force to investigate the next generation ICBM system, which is commonly referred to as the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD).As the Integration Support Contractor, BAE Systems is executing the critical role of Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance to the Air Force in the development of the GBSD system.BAE Systems is assisting the air force in the determination and evaluation of nuclear weapons environments relevant to ICBM operations as well as the ability of the system to survive such environments.We are looking for engineers with backgrounds in Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Systems Engineering as well as various disciplines of Physics.The candidates should be capable of obtaining a clearance at a DoD or a DOE level clearnace.BAE Systems, is an equal opportunity employer and candidates with military service are considered favorably.

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 4 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
BAE Systems is looking for employees that either have some of the following skills or who have a proven ability to quickly learn the following skills-?xml:namespace prefix = "o" /->
Candidates with a B.S. in physics or engineering with 6 years of experience
A background or ability to learn about nuclear weapons effects such as hydrodynamic shockwaves, radiative shockwaves, hostile shock response, seismic motion, electromagnetic theory and radiation transport
A general background or familiarity with test engineering practices
Must be capable of continuous learning
Candidate must feel comfortable working in fields outside of their traditional training
Active US DoD Security Clearance.
Preferred Skills and Education
Candidates with an M.S. or Ph.D. in related fields of engineering or physics will be considered favorable for this position.-?xml:namespace prefix = "o" /->
Familiarity with ICBM systems
7 years of relevant experience
An understanding of physics related to nuclear weapons to include radiation transport, hydrodynamic shock waves, and electromagnetic theory
Knowledge of radiation effects on electronic devices and radiation hardened electronics
Programming experience with languages such as Fortran, C , Python, Matlab, and hydrocodes
Experience with nuclear effects codes such as THTK, ASSIST as well as other relevant radiation transport and hydro codes.
Statistical systems analysis
Pulsed power testing
Positive professional experience with DoD entities such as DTRA, Air Force Global Strike Command, U.S. Strategic Command or DOE Laboratories
US DoD Security Clearance.
