BAE Systems Discipline Lead, C4ISRS HW Engineering in Greenlawn, New York

Job Description

BAE Systems is looking for a Hardware Engineering Discipline Lead for the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Systems Business Area. This position reports to the Director, US Defense Hardware Engineering, and can be located at any C4ISRS site. The executive position has responsibility for a large engineering organization (greater than 200 people) and is responsible for all aspects of Hardware Engineering s performance across a broad business portfolio, in multiple geographically dispersed sites, in support of that business area. This includes application of core engineering processes, hiring and talent development, technology development and application, facilitation of HW Infrastructure (labs, electronic tools, etc.) and performance on programs. Additional responsibilities may include senior leadership of Capability Groups, Communities of Practice (CoP) and Electronic Systems Hardware Engineering initiatives.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Partner with C4ISRS business leaders to ensure business objectives are achieved.

  • Support the C4ISRS Business Area Engineering Director and Discipline peers.

  • Attract and retain staff to support the business; resolve any resource or staffing issues.

  • Identify, hire and develop critical skills and resources required to meet business objectives.

  • Ensure application of engineering processes (emphasis on tailoring to maximize value added).

  • Establish and maintain infrastructure and tools required to meet business objectives

  • Meet all department financial objectives (Direct Labor, Indirect Expenses, Utilization and IE rate).

  • Participate in discipline continuous improvement activities and ensure adoption within the organization.

  • Establish goals and standards of performance, create budgets, staffing requirements, and short and long-term strategic plans.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education


  • Active Secret DoD clearance

  • Bachelors and 15 years related experience

  • Extensive technical leadership experience and ability to create alignment within the organization.

  • Proven ability to lead a diverse organization across multiple sites.

  • Ability to formulate a vision and implement action plans to achieve goals.

  • Ability to define, develop and maintain critical skills in support of the business area.

  • Practical understanding of product development and the DoD product development lifecycle.

  • Proven performance in management, mentoring, coaching and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and decision-making ability.

Preferred Skills and Education


  • Engineering background in Space, RF and/or Optical domains

  • Active Top Secret clearance

  • Ability to lead a growing, multi-site organization
