Job Description

The Equipment Maintenance Manager position leadsthe site Maintenance function in providing both a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure.

Typical tasks will include the supervision, support, and guidance of maintenance technicians working on Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing, Pneumatics, and Refrigeration. These competencies are needed to improve and maintain production equipment efficiency. In addition, must possess an awareness and understanding of how to work safely on all equipment in a production environment. This position has hiring and disciplinary responsibilities.

Position requires leadership of a maintenance team involving administrative, interpersonal, and technical skills to facilitate the maintenance of a large distribution and manufacturing facility.


Strategy and Development:

  • Create and implement maintenance vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance

  • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Maintenance activities

People Management:

  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing Maintenance team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements

  • Communicate goals and objectives of the organization to the maintenance team, and translate into strategic initiatives, direct actions and responsibilities

  • Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports

  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required

  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them

  • Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels

  • Motivate and coach the team to operational success

  • Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems

  • Review, implement and update company records e.g. training matrices, performance reviews, risk assessments

  • Communicate KPIs from the strategic annual plan so that each employee is aware

General and Task Management:

  • Develop and drive implementation of Total Productive Maintenance, Planned, Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs to improve equipment uptime and reliability

  • Ensure that all equipment and facility installations and/or modifications meet or exceed all regulatory agency standards and complies with all Company policies and/or procedures

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance

  • Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the maintenance strategy

  • Input and hold responsibility for maintenance budgets

  • Determine when to outsource maintenance issues and ensure contractors are completing work within company guidelines

  • Develop, plan, and execute a weekly/monthly/yearly maintenance schedule

  • Coordinate with other departments to schedule maintenance for machines

  • Ensure all necessary maintenance is performed and updated in CMMS system. Establish new guidelines as necessary

  • Ensure the Availability of key equipment at the center and develop actions to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)

  • Ensure proper layout, assembly, installation, and maintenance of operations equipment

  • Identify safety issues with machines; document issues; develop action plan to resolve concern; follow-up to ensure problems are resolved

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor s degree in business administration, engineering, management or related field preferred

  • 8 years relevant experience in maintenance, or equivalent

  • Extensive knowledge in a variety of mechanical systems

  • Ability to consistently maintain positive customer relationships

  • Makes safety a priority at all times

  • Excellent leadership and management skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to manage a variety of cross-functional team members

  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills

  • Competent in problem solving, team building, planning and decision making

  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Suite) and a solid understanding of data analysis software

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Previous managerial experience highly preferred

  • Lean and/or six-sigma certification
