BAE Systems Payroll Team Lead (PeopleSoft) in Charlotte, North Carolina

Great opportunity for a top notch Payroll Team Lead! This position reports into the Manager Finance (Payroll Operations). The position is responsible for assisting the Payroll Manager in the administration of the payroll operations functions, managing incoming issues and questions that are of complex nature, and ensuring that they are addressed and supported by the Operations team in a timely and responsive manner. The position will serve as the liaison to HR Shared Services for BAE Systems, ensuring strong communications between Payroll and HR. The position will coordinate year-end payroll activities, including employee communications regarding year-end processing. The position will oversee and manage the user access to the business-facing supplemental earnings portal, ensuring workflow and system processing capability is maintained. The position will manage complex payroll projects, including any integrations or reorganizations, and manage functional tasks related to any technical upgrades within the payroll department.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists with the administration of day-to-day activities related to payroll processing.

  2. Acts as liaison with HR Shared Services and other internal stakeholders within FSS to ensure strong communications are in place to facilitate information flow and permit responsive resolutions to employee payroll questions and concerns.

  3. Supports development, collection, and reporting of key performance metrics across payroll (including error rates, transactional volumes, dollars, etc.).

  4. Provides support for ad-hoc queries and reporting requests from FSS clients and customers.

  5. Manages complex payroll projects and special projects required within the Payroll department, including any support of integrations or reorganizations or management of functional tasks related to technical upgrades.

  6. Performs any control self-assessments to ensure controls are regularly tested and in place for the payroll processes.

  7. Performs other related duties, as required.

  8. Maintains desktop procedures and updates documentation as required.

Typical Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • 5 years professional experience

  • Experience in payroll required, including payroll accounting

  • Familiarity with payroll tax

  • Experience and familiarity enterprise-wide payroll software (PeopleSoft)

  • Experience managing multiple projects with multiple clients in any given point in time

  • Experience with Microsoft Office required

  • Strong managerial and coaching skills

  • Strong process and systems skills

  • Able to articulate complex subject matter effectively

  • Able to anticipate problems and respond accordingly

  • Excellent entrepreneurial skills and ability to work independently

  • Excellent interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organization and follow-through skills

  • Experience interfacing with 3 rd party vendors or providers

Preferred Skills and Education

Master's Degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience performing accounting services as a defense/government contractor in a regulated and compliant organization, specifically DCAA, is strongly preferred

  • More than 7 years experience preferred

  • Experience processing payroll in a multi-state with multiple legal entities

  • Experience with implementations of payroll services and or payroll process changes

  • Experience with PeopleSoft Payroll

  • Payroll certifications (including FPC or CPP) preferred

  • Experience in a shared service preferred

  • Previous experience managing process improvements within the organization

  • Proven experience translating business requirements into service opportunities
