BAE Systems Sr. Principal Scientist - Advanced Computing in Burlington, Massachusetts
BAE Systems is looking for a Sr. Principal Research Scientist in the area of Advanced Computing. In this role, the candidate will serve as Principal Investigator or Project Technical Lead, leading research and development for Construction of Computing Systems; Analysis, Visibility and Insight into Computing Systems; and Foundations of Advanced Computing applied to trusted computing in Autonomy. This include: programming languages, modeling of computing systems, development tools, compilers, and probabilistic programming; Static and Dynamic analysis, run time instrumentation and verification, reverse engineering, explainable software, artificial intelligence, trustworthy systems; OS for distributed Systems, computer architecture, distributed computing, compiler backend and optimization, formal methods and transparent computing.
As a Research Scientist the candidate will support R&D efforts through all phases of its lifecycle, from brainstorming and conceptualization, to opportunity identification and development, to leading research and experimentation during program execution. The candidate will craft whitepaper and proposals elements encapsulating ideas, publish and present results in peer-reviewed venues, and actively engage in the broader research community through professional leadership activities. He/she will focus ontrusted computing, from clean-slate architectures to software assurance to self-aware and self-adapting software, with applications to autonomy.

The BAE Systems Intelligent Adaptive Software (IAS) directorate is a leading multidisciplinary R&D department dedicated to meeting critical U.S. military needs. Our directorate specializes in research in computer science, software engineering, and artificial intelligence for autonomous systems investigating, developing, and evaluating innovative technology across a variety of domains for customers in the Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC). Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
Ph.D. degree and 10 years work experience, Master s degree and 13 years of work experience, Bachelor's degree and 15 years of work experience, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated experience in the business development lifecycle, culminating in crafting winning proposals with customers interested in high assurance and cyber related technologies. Responsibilities include:
Leading proposal writing and submission from story boarding through critical organization reviews.
Introductory discussions to establish customer interest in a research topic
Shaping to influence the structure of new program starts
Ability to work with internal and external collaborators to form a winning team
Demonstrated technical leadership with strong written and communication skills:
Experience in preparing highly technical briefs for DoD and IC customers (e.g., DARPA, IARPA, AFRL) is strongly preferred; commensurate experience with similar customer base will be considered.
Experience in research program planning and execution.
Highly respected in science and technology (S&T) academic communities, with strong leadership in relevant professional community as demonstrated through one or more of the following:
Strong knowledge of the Computer Science (CS) research and academic space with expertise in one or more of the following:
hardware supported host-based computer security protections (RISC-V based)
software assurance for autonomous cyber-physical systems
developing warning and diagnosis techniques for advanced persistent threats
Eligible for a SECRET clearance
Preferred Skills and Education
Preferred Education MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field
Preferred Skills Capability the following areas is also desired:
Top Secret/SCI clearance
