BAE Systems Director, Collaboration, Architecture, & Reasoning Technologies (CART) in Burlington, Massachusetts
The Director of the Collaboration, Architecture, & Reasoning Technologies (CART) Technologies Directorate will report directly to the Director of the Autonomy, Control, & Estimation (ACE) Technology Group. ACE develops technologically disruptive, War-winning capabilities that drive mission system autonomy and decision-making through the Assess Learn Act cycle, at any speed. This position includes profit and loss responsibility the CART Directorate. Responsibilities include:
Define and execute the annual strategy for the CART Directorate. Develop annual business plan and manage the business to meet or exceed the plan. Track progress to towards that plan on a regular basis. Key elements of the business plan include funding, sales, profit, new business funds, directorate expense and staff utilization planning and management. Provide advice and counsel to ACE Director and Sr. Leadership.
Provide leadership oversight and active engagement in the development and pursuit of business opportunities for the CART Directorate.
Develop relationships with Defense and Intelligence customers in the CART R&D market segment to create and shape new business opportunities.
Provide leadership oversight and active engagement in the preparation of technical, management and cost proposals.
Manage new business funds allocated to the directorate.
Maintain cognizance of corporate capabilities and identify new business leads for other Directorates, Technology Groups and Business Areas.
CART will support ACE s vision to be the premier source of Autonomy research & development and technology disruption. CART will focus on scalable systems design to extend human cognitive reach & trusted computing architectures to enable next-generation autonomy. Along with developing partnerships with peer organizations, CART will create architecture approaches & frameworks to support mission system integration and rapid human/machine decision-making execution tools. CART mission applications may govern the complex orchestration of multi-platform and multi-domain systems combining heterogeneous networks of applications and apertures that may include (but not be limited to) weapons, ISR components, and unmanned vehicles.
CART will merge core research thrusts including Compositional Workflows, Adaptive Scalable Design, Natural Language Processing and Exploitation, Human Machine Trust and Collaboration, and System of Systems Modeling. Customer/client include both DoD R&D organizations and BAE Business Area. CART will ensure open, modular implementation approaches and achieve cross-domain, data agnostic, and multi-int solutions to the maximum extent possible. Responsible for creating an innovation culture that brings cutting-edge technologies to today s hardest Battle Management Command and Control (C2) problems, inclusive of Multi Domain C2, autonomous/semi-autonomous operations, and Anti-Access Active Denial aspects.
Ensure the successful execution of all programs led by the CART Directorate. Ensure all programs are executed in accordance with Technology Solutions Program Management Policies. Coordinate efforts across multiple projects, within and outside of the Directorate. Lead the pursuit of follow-on business opportunities. Support cross Directorate, Tech Group and Business Area programs.
Proactively engage with BAE Systems Business Areas to facilitate transition of CART technology to BAE Systems products. Build relationships with Business Area technical and management staff to facilitate technology transition and collaboration. This includes early engagement on major R&D pursuits, coordinating blended teams for execution of R&D projects and coordinating roadmaps and investments to facilitate transition of technology for Business Area leverage.
Work with the ACE leadership team to actively manage and develop talent within the CART Directorate. Work with HR and the ACE Director to prepare salary and compensation review recommendations. Develop performance goals for the staff and conduct annual performance appraisals.
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
8 years of technical and management experience in Research and Development or Systems Integration for the Defense and Intelligence markets.
Advanced degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, operations research, computer science, mathematics, or physics
Strong technical experience integrating fusion, exploitation, resource management, or control services to enable enhanced payload performance
Domain expertise in one or more of the following areas: Integration Technologies, Fusion, Exploitation, Resource Management, and Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance
Eligible for US Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (active clearance strongly preferred)
