We are seeking a highly creative, entrepreneurial, and experienced Chief Scientists to lead and engage in the full contract research and development program lifecycle from program capture through execution and technology transition. You will develop program concepts and lead teams to create complex systems and algorithms that solve some of the most pressing R&D challenges of our time. You will engage as a mentor and advisor to junior staff. You will work with our world-renowned university partners to extend our patent-pending technologies. The projects you direct are for the nation's most prestigious research organizations including DARPA, Army Research Labs, and Air Force Research Labs. You will meet with BAE Systems business units, members of the military, program managers in DARPA, and other industry experts to understand precisely which capabilities are needed, and use those needs to guide research.
You will lead and guide business capture in the creation of advanced technical solutions to address our customers most difficult challenges. You will lead proposals and proposal teams and interact with customers during business capture phase as a capture lead. You will be the Principle Investigator leading teams developing innovative technology and serve as the primary technical interface to our research and development customers. You will supervise the efforts of our contractors and sub-contractors, and work collaboratively with your counterparts when teamed with multiple internal and external organizations.
The ideal candidate shall have demonstrated the ability to be an individual contributor as well as lead a team of scientists and engineers to capture and execute advanced research and development programs.
You must be a team player with a proactive attitude and the capacity to be creative and productive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You must have strong writing and general communication skills, with strong presentation skills. You will participate in meetings with customers, co-contractors, and/or sub-contractors. Travel may be required to support customer or collaborator meetings, software integration and testing, capability demonstrations, and internal organizational meetings.
Chief Scientist for the development of advanced, novel, complex algorithms and scientific solutions to complex technical problems
Capture lead for high-priority business development efforts, especially with novel and innovative ideas for new customers or for new applications
Mentorship of technical staff in the areas of business development, proposal execution, technical leadership
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
- Bachelor's degree with 15 years, Master's with 13 years, or Ph.D., with 11 years of experience in the following or related fields: Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Operations Research or related discipline
Eligible for US Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (active clearance strongly preferred) and ability to obtain access to restricted programs is required.
Preferred Skills and Education
Experience as capture lead and Chief Scientist of securing and executing DARPA, IARPA or other Government S&T lab R&D programs
Experience leading advanced prototype development programs that include software integration and test
Domain expertise in one or more of the following areas: Electronic Warfare, Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Mission Planning, Autonomy, Inherently Secure Computing, Data Analytics, Space Situational Awareness
Strong technical expertise in systems engineering
