BAE Systems Operations Program Manager II in Austin, Texas

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking an Operations Program Manager to oversee a key development program. The activities will be in support of execution on Qualification phase hardware builds in Austin and New Hampshire, New Product Introduction activity, and delivery of test equipment to support future phases of the program. The program will be run out of Southern NH, while manufacturing of all hardware will be executed out of the Austin TX site. This position will be a tactical role in support of more experienced Operations Program Managers on the programs. Because of this, there is a unique opportunity to work closely under tutelage of senior OPMs and gain exposure to strategic program execution. Due to the program being located in NH, there will be an expectation to travel between 10-20%. The ideal candidate will plan for and be able to work this program with this travel requirement in mind.

Primary responsibilities are shown below:

  • Provide support to Control Account Manager (CAM) for Operations on the LIMWS program. Work closely with OPMs to manage Operations performance against the baseline program plan by monitoring quality, schedule, and cost performance of all Operations functions assigned to a program.

  • Drive New Product Introduction activities, DTUPC, PPAPs, PPVs etc acting as a key interface to Engineering and a customer to the NPI function.

  • Presents Operations status to Customer, Program Management, and/or Operations Management as required.

  • Responsible for managing factory execution - ensuring the factory, technical operations team, and supply chain teams properly support the development program.

  • Will interface with supply chain planners, procurement staff, and commodity specialists to drive quick turn procurements in development environment.

  • Interfaces with the appropriate organization within Operations to ensure any changes which will impact assigned tasks have been appropriately communicated and addressed.

  • Promotes a strong sense of teamwork among personnel supporting various phases of the program efforts.

  • Utilize all the tools available to drive a Zero Defect culture throughout the team (Root Cause Corrective Action, Corrective Action Review Board, Kaizen Events and Projects for Green and Black Belts).

  • Drive the Supply Chain Strategy and management of the Supply Base Quality through the Supplier Surveillance and Engagement Strategy for the program.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • BS in Business Administration, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Optical, or Materials Engineering, or equivalent 6 years of working experience.

  • Ability to lead in a cross-functional team environment, with a customer-focused approach, and an aptitude for continuous improvement in serving internal and external customers

  • Demonstrated success in implementing lean manufacturing, yield management and resolution of a complex product base, and supply chain initiatives

  • Requires strong manufacturing background and experience in complex Electronic boxes.

  • Strong diplomatic, communication, presentation and negotiation skills

  • Ability to manage and report status of projects within a project management discipline

  • Ability to execute and deliver on tactical objectives

  • Must be a US citizen eligible for a DOD security clearance

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Master s Degree and Supply Chain experience

  • Lean and Six-Sigma Black Belt certified from an accredited source

  • Demonstrated experience supporting product development and NPI (New Product Introduction) transition of complex Electronic systems into a production environment.

  • Must be self-motivated, independent, and capable of leading a medium sized technical and manufacturing team.

  • Must have a working familiarity with ISO 9001/ AS9100 quality systems and DoD manufacturing and test standards.
