Job Description

The BAE Systems site in Aiken, South Carolina supporting Combat Vehicles is seeking a Process Support Engineer II / Weld for Floor Support in Fabrication. In the role, the Engineer:

  • Provides engineering and technical support for welding operations in fabrication/manufacture of products;

  • Researches, develops, and improves manufacturing processes, methods, and systems for products, facilities, fixtures, tooling, equipment, and/or materials;

  • Provides recommendations upon research for weld equipment, identifying limitations and capabilities;

  • Develops and tests work methods and procedures, ensuring performance and quality of materials, products, and machines meet specifications and standards;

  • Ensures technical outcomes are consistent with established engineering principles and practices and that of customer and company technical, system, performance, and quality requirements.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 4 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Working knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a relevant technical field of specialization.

  • Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies in applicable engineering disciplines.

  • Ability to solve moderately complex technical design and development problems that require a professional level of engineering knowledge.

  • Knowledge of metallurgy, material weld capability, weld automation, as well as manual machining processes.

  • Moderate Knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with customers to solve moderately complex technical problems.

  • Strong safety principals, sharing the common responsibility of identifying and correcting unsafe conditions and acts.

  • Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing ASME Y14.5-2009.

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Demonstrated self-starter, who requires minimal supervision.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Proven technical troubleshooting skills

  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to proactively coordinate multiple entities to achieve final deliverable.

  • Basic EPDM knowledge and CREO 3D modeling with the Ability to use CAD models/ software to solve complex problems.

  • Entry level knowledge of manufacturing principles. Weld assemblies, fabrication (forming, waterjet & lasercut), CNC machining.

  • Basic knowledge on material specs for Aluminum & steel.

  • Ability to create/maintain large Excel spreadsheets.

  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards is beneficial.

  • Certification with AWS as a CWI or other relevant certification is desirable.
