BAE Systems Supplier Quality Engineer in Aberdeen, South Dakota
We are looking for an early career, self-motivated Supplier Quality Engineer that will help ensure suppliers are prepared and have robust plans to deliver first time quality to BAE program customers by implementing quality tools and processes. The person will also investigate, evaluate, and resolve supplier quality problems by conducting audits, analyzing defect trends, and leading continuous improvement projects. The Supplier Quality Engineer will conduct capability assessments that verify supplier qualifications, travel to assigned suppliers, and lead multiple projects to completion. You must be a self-starting problem solver who is adaptable to change, is able to take on unique challenges and will utilize your analytical skills to find innovative solutions to quality-related issues.
The Supplier Quality Engineer shall also support supplier quality purchase order requirements, supplier approvals, verification of purchased products, supplier surveillance, risk mitigation, supplier non-conformance management and supplier performance improvement.
This person will also support engineering change notices, vendor information request, MRB, daily operations support for supplier caused nonconformance, SQ contract requirements, certified parts, notice of escapements, GIDEP, defect trend analysis, root cause, corrective, preventive actions and drive continuous improvement.
Strong communication skills are required to insure suppliers understand requirements and expectations, make progress reports and present findings.
The candidate will:
Utilize supplier scorecards/metrics and analytical tools to quantify performance levels of individual suppliers and work with those suppliers to develop improvement plans to achieve 100% quality performance.
Evaluate the impact of nonconforming product and assess suppliers corrective actions.
Champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances.
Perform inspection as needed on product at suppliers locations and or on site
Perform as needed and evaluate First Article Inspections per the AS9102 requirements. Train suppliers to meet BAE System's requirements.
Drive Zero Defect mentality within the supply base and A3 problem solving tool practices.
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience
Experience in Failure Analysis, Root Cause Analysis and developing Corrective/ Preventative Actions
Experience with ISO 9001or AS9100 Quality System and AS9102B First Article Requirements or comparable industry standards
Understanding of drawings requirements with ability to determine compliance
Effective, clear communicator and practical problem solver
Microsoft Office experience
Expected Travel requirement: Must be able to support as needed up to 50 % or greater. This will be a mix of local, day visits as well as some overnight travel, outside the local area.
Preferred Skills and Education
- Bachelor's Degree Engineering: Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Quality. BS -Technology, Industrial Management, Industrial Technology.
With 4 years work experience
Experience in Defense Prime Contract environment is a plus
Knowledge of NADCAP special processes, welding, NDT, casting, forging, machining and assembly. Product Production Line Validation, test, equipment, instrumentation and qualification
Experience with product test, equipment, instrumentation, forging, casting, foundry, machining, assembly, welding, brazing, finishes, coatings, nondestructive testing, fabrication, composites and other common processes common in the Naval, Defense and or Aerospace industries
Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma concepts and tools (e.g. Green / Black Belt)
Toyota Production System (TPS), Toyota Way, A3 problem solving tool
